My name is Charlene and I’m 16 years old. I am proud to be a member of PowerU in Miami because I feel like more of a leader now and I’ve learned about all the problems that we face as Latinos and African Americans, and how our situations our very similar and we need each other to make a difference in America. I love how we work hard to try and achieve a better life. My parents are extremely determined to provide me and my sisters with a better education and a better road to success. But now those dreams are becoming harder to reach. I want to help get the message across that Latinos and immigrants are being treated unfairly. A lot of us here work in farm labor and we still don’t get paid as much, and now we have to deal with the fear of our loved ones being deported because President Trump is not willing to listen to us. But I will never give up and I most definitely stand up for what I believe in and that makes me unbreakable.
