The Trump Administration is a threat to the lives and safety of millions of immigrant children. Trump’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents have torn babies from their mothers, run over, punched, and sexually abused children, and lost nearly 1,500 children and youth in Health and Human Services (HHS) custody. They are unfit to be in charge of children.
What they are doing to children of immigrant families in our country is a crisis of massive proportions, only comparable to what happens during wars, violent conflicts or horrible dictatorships.
Trump makes up scary stories about ‘violent immigrants’, but his own agents are the ones committing unthinkable violence against defenseless children. Whether taken by Border Patrol while crossing the border, torn from their parents after seeking asylum, or snatched from their school by ICE -falsely accused of being gang members-, this crisis is proof that the agencies executing Trump’s family separation policies are not acting in the best interests of children and should not be in charge of any child or teenager.
We demand that Trump’s immigration agencies - ICE, Border Patrol, the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of Refugee Resettlement - stop the implementation of any policy that separates children and youth from their families, and that the Administration enlist qualified social service agencies to ensure the wellbeing of children who are still in their custody, or have gone missing.
